Ramallah, Palestine / October 2017
Alwaan, the Arabic-language knowledge platform on sensory and cognitive developmental issues supported by Iris Solutions, was nominated as Best national digital solution for Palestine at the international World Summit Awards that highlight projects which combine digital innovation with impact on society.
Nominated in the Inclusion & Empowerment category, Alwaan qualifies for evaluation by the WSA Online Jury. The WSA nominees for 2017 show the richness, diversity, future and innovation of digital solutions on a global scale and show how digital technology can improve society across the globe.
Alwaan’s founders said: “We, at Alwaan, are aware of the scarcity of Arabic-content in general, and specifically the one breaking stereotypes regarding inclusion, integration and interconnectedness of various vulnerable groups. One of such areas is the awareness and inclusion of people with various disabilities of all ages. Alwaan hopes to be a guide for the local specialists, centres and beneficiaries as well as assist in reaching the international levels in cooperation, information accessibility and opportunities – all related to the relevant topic. ”
The WSA 2017 nominees will be evaluated based on seven fundamentals criteria: Content, Functionality, Design, Technology, Innovation, Impact and Global/UN value. A nomination to the WSA is already and award in itself – the qualification to compete and compare on the international level and being the best practice in Inclusion & Empowerment nationally.
